Model Solution Holds ‘MOA’ Award Ceremony for Industry-Academic Collaboration Project
Model Solution Holds ‘MOA’ Award Ceremony for Industry-Academic Collaboration Project
November 27, 2024
- Held an award ceremony with students from Hongik University's Industrial Design Department on November 22 at its headquarters in Bucheon, South Korea - ‘ORBY’ space maintenance assistant robot, designed under the theme "AI Life," was selected as the final winning entry - Contributing to the discovery and cultivation of global talent through various projects with leading universities worldwide   Model Solution, a total hardware platform company and a subsidiary of Hankook & Company Group (formerly Hankook Tire Group), held an award ceremony for the ‘MOA (Model One Award)’ program, an industry-academic collaboration project with students from Hongik University’s Industrial Design Department, and unveiled the final award-winning works.   The MOA program is an industry-academic collaboration project that helps industrial design students from domestic and international universities bring their creative and innovative design ideas to life as high-fidelity prototype products. Since its inception in 2016, the program has been held annually as part of the company’s social contribution efforts.   This year’s project was carried out under the theme “AI Life” (Artificial Intelligence Life). During the project, Model Solution provided students with opportunities to experience real-world work by offering mentorship from professional designers to refine their design ideas and by utilizing the company’s specialized expertise in CMF (Color, Material, Finish). This allowed students to create high-quality prototypes close to market-ready products.   Among the diverse and innovative designs submitted this year, the “ORBY” AI robot assistant for space maintenance was selected as the final winner. ORBY is a robotic assistant designed to support space engineers by providing tools and components using its two arms. It not only ensures the engineer’s safe return to the spacecraft after completing tasks but also protects them from potential hazards like space debris, making it versatile in various scenarios.   Additionally, ORBY was designed as a humanoid robot with a human-like appearance to enable natural interaction with engineers. It received the highest evaluation in categories such as innovation, creativity, and future-oriented design.   Model Solution CEO Byungil Woo said, “We are delighted to support the enhancement of innovative and creative design ideas from future global industrial design leaders through mentorship with professional designers and the realization of their concepts into prototypes using our advanced technologies. We will continue to contribute to fostering global talent through ongoing industry-university collaboration projects.”   Meanwhile, Model Solution has been actively engaging in various industry-academic collaboration projects with leading universities and institutions worldwide, including the MOA program. Since 2022, the company has supported the Korea Design Membership Plus program, a practical design education initiative by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion. In October this year, Model Solution participated in the “Corporate + Young Designer Brand Exhibition,” a flagship industry-academic collaboration program by the Seoul Design Foundation, showcasing industrial AR (augmented reality) designs developed with Hongik University students.   Going forward, Model Solution plans to continue supporting aspiring designers in the industrial design field by generously providing its advanced prototyping technologies and various other resources, fostering their dreams and passion.

Together with its R&D partner Virnect, Model Solution is showcasing products integrated with the latest augmented reality (AR) technology, aiming to expand its presence in the global market.   'GITEX GLOBAL' is a major exhibition where IT companies and innovative technologies from around the world can be seen in one place. This year, approximately 5,000 companies from over 100 countries are taking part. Model Solution has set up an exhibition booth for the event and is showcasing the head-mounted AR device 'MS-AR20SE,' co-developed with Virnect, a company specializing in AI and extended reality (XR) technologies. In addition, they have created an interactive experience where visitors can wear the device to view real-time data and malfunction alerts from semiconductor facility lines.   The 'MS-AR20SE' is a device that can be widely utilized in high-tech industries such as semiconductors, displays, and biotechnology. Since July of this year, Model Solution has been collaborating with Virnect on the joint development of smart goggles. They have participated together in various domestic and international exhibitions, including 'K-Display 2024' and '2024 Edutech Korea Fair,' showcasing their advanced hardware, AR solutions, and software technologies in the AR field.   The 'MS-AR20SE' is scheduled for field testing at Hankook Tire & Technology's plant in Tennessee, USA until November of this year. Following successful technology validation in the field, mass production is aimed at the second half of this year. Model Solution expects that this device will provide benefits such as cost reduction, improved productivity, and increased convenience for global big tech companies.   Model Solution CEO Byungil Woo said, "Through the collaboration with Virnect, a digital transformation (DX) partner specializing in digital twin and AI/XR solutions, we aim to develop advanced AR devices that can play a significant role in future industries. We will continue our research and development efforts to maximize efficiency and productivity across various industrial sectors."   Meanwhile, Model Solution continues to participate in major global exhibitions, including the world’s largest IT and electronics show 'CES,' the largest IT mobile exhibition 'MWC,' and Europe’s largest consumer electronics fair 'IFA.' Through these events, the company showcases AR devices that incorporate advanced hardware and software, earning recognition as an innovative technology company alongside global enterprises.   Moving forward, Model Solution plans to reinforce its image as a global innovation hardware platform company by participating in leading IT exhibitions worldwide.
