LEATHER

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Information

    • Cowhide and sheepskin are the ones that used mostly.
    • Cowhide: Normally the pattern is thick and rough(fine pattern can be achieved per the machining process). The original material is thick, so it is used by thinning the leather.
    • Sheepskin: Pattern is thin and light and the raw leather is soft. Since the thickness is thin, so the reducing the thickness is not feasible.
    • The other leather: We can use the snakeskin, crocodile skin, artificial leather on the model, but not that request. Instead of real leather, artificial leather which has various pattern is used.

FABRIC

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Fabric Types

    • The fabric has various type and they each have pros and cons so its use is different.
    • The process for the fabric is also various like thermoform/bonding/sewing.
    • The additional finish like Hot stamping/Printing/Oil painting/Silicon printing can be applied, further discussion with the engineer will be needed.

ART CAM PATTERN

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Note

    • 2D pattern can be converted 3D and applied to model by Art cam program.
    • The volume and depth of the pattern can be adjusted by using the shade of the 2D pattern.
    • It has advantages of freely expressing fine and geometric patterns that cannot be achieved by modeling.

LASER ETCHING

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Note

    • The laser etching equipment that Model Solution has can basically work on a flat surface only.
    • The models or parts with the slight curvature are partially applicable, but the patterns or texts imprinted on the shape with rapid curvature will be stretched or expressed improperly.
    • ※ The feasible product application size of the laser etching equipment we have is W 490 x D 390 x H 200

HEAT PRESSING

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Note

    • The Heat Pressing is a sensitive operation because the leather or fabric can be melted or torn due to the heat while thermoforming using the metal mold tools or the rapid curvature.
    • Therefore, the consultation with an engineer is necessary when the thermoforming process needs to be carried out.

NCVM

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • NCVM Like

    • NCVM is an abbreviation for Non-Conductive Vacuum Metallization.
    • It is a process that gives a metallic polish to the surface of a plastic material while coating it with non-conductive layer.
    • However, to simulate such look during the prototyping process, paint is sprayed on a chrome plating and then finished with clear coating. There’s another method of applying another vacuum after the clear coating.

SILICON

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Note

    • A metal mold tool is required for the silicone mold, so the lead-time of manufacturing is longer, and the cost is higher than other process.
    • In addition, the instant adhesive and adhesive tape that generally used for bonding are not working for these types of silicone results.
    • Plus, some of shape can be limited because it is stamped out with a metal mold tool.

RUBBER

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Basic of Rubber mold

    • The mold frame for Rubber mold is made of silicon rather than metal, and this process can shorten the lead-time of molding.
    • We can also control the hardness from 40A to 90A, however, the molded object with the lower hardness will have the stickier surface.
    • It is important to consider the thickness of the rubber when mold. If the thickness is thick, the rubber will shrink itself and not able to obtain the accurate result. Therefore, it is recommended that the rubber maintains a constant 3T or less thickness, and double-shot mold with plastic insertion for the thicker version.

BRUSH LINE

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Brush Line

    • The brush line can create natural hairline by hand work or for expressing spin patterns at regular intervals by CNC tooling.
    • Various colors and finishes combination can be applied to a metal surface to express the feel of metal more clearly, or if applied to plastic and post-processed with a spray.
    • However, the brush line has restrictions of line direction and expression per the shape and surface curvature of the product.
    • To express the brush line in a dynamic product shape, prior consultation with the model solution is required.

BLAST

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Blast

    • The blast process in design industry, generally used to give texture to metal surface.
    • By spraying powders such as glass, ceramic, and emery sand at high pressure and colliding with the metal surface can express texture on the metal surface.
    • For example, if you impinge a very small ball-shaped ceramic bead on a metal surface, you can get a fine and smooth metal surface.
    • Conversely, if the emery beads of thick metal pieces collide with the metal surface, a rough and dry expression can be presented on the metal surface.
    • After blasting the metal surface, a finishing process such as anodizing or plating is required.
    • It usually goes on aluminum but not to plastic.

WOOD

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Note

    • Wood material has various kinds and as per the type of kind, it has its characteristics such as density, hardness, weight, grain direction, and color.
    • To use wood material, distortion and shrinkage that occurs after processing have to be minimized through pre-drying and in some cases, for deformation prevention, the distortion can be corrected by applying pressure using a jig after processing.
    • There is a difference in receipt date depends on wood type and pre-discussion is required to acquire goods within the required deadline.

PLATING

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Plating Types

    • Plating can cover thin metal film such as chromium, nickel, and rose gold on a product surface through electricity by immersing the product in an electrolytic solution.
    • As per target weight of the final good, you can select the base material as an option
    • Brass is the optimal material for the highest plating finish quality even though weight is heavy.
    • If aluminum used as the base material, the weight may lighter than brass.
    • However, the plating thickness may thicker and plating quality of the shape at edge of the product will be behind in quality because it has to go through every pre-treatment process with nickel plating
    • If ABS is used as the base material, the weight can be lowest, but the plating quality won’t be good.
    • Due to the various shape and characteristic of the product, selelting the material has to be consulted with the model solution.

VACUUM DEPOSITION

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Note

    • The metal is heated and vaporized in a vacuum chamber, and the vaporized gas is accumulated and deposited on a target with a relatively low temperature to form a thin film.
    • It can be applied to base material other than metal and as per the sediment layer, semi-transparently can be expressed.
    • Depends on the metal being combined during evaporation and deposit, various effects can be expressed.
    • However, it is difficult to fine-tune the color, and it is difficult to derive completely the same result when the deposition of the same specification is re-implemented.
    • Also, Implementation of deposition on a shape such as a steep slope is difficult and require consultation with Model Solution in advance

LAMINATION

GENERAL CMF

01 / 04
  • Note

    • The curvature on the surface to be lamination is too steep or the R value on the edge which is two curved surface meets is not enough, the film can be peeled.
    • Lamination can be applied if the film which is through the OCA or similar process and the checking if it’s achievable on curved surface by considering the thickness of film and elasticity is needed.
    • If they don’t meet, the film can be peeled.
